Description
Four piece Walking Liberty Half Dollars. This lot includes years 1918, 1934-S, and 1942-D and 1942-P. The Walking Liberty Half Dollar was designed by Adolph A. Weinman and was minted from 1916 to 1947. The obverse (front) features Lady Liberty walking toward the rising sun, draped in the American flag, carrying branches of laurel and oak symbolizing civil and military glory. The design includes the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST." The reverse shows a majestic American eagle perched on a mountain crag, with "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "HALF DOLLAR" around the rim, and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" to the left of the eagle. The coins appear to be in circulated condition but still retain good detail in their design elements. One interesting note about the 1942 coins shown is that they were minted during World War II, when silver coinage played an important role in America's wartime economy. The Walking Liberty Half Dollar contained 90% silver and 10% copper. The 1934-S is considered a semi-key date in the Walking Liberty Half Dollar series, meaning it's one of the more valuable dates in circulated condition
