U.S. Silver Certificate, which is a type of dollar bill that was once redeemable for physical silver. This appears to be a Series of 1899 $1 Silver Certificate, identifiable by its design and the portraits it features.

Silver Certificates were issued by the U.S. government between 1878 and 1964, and were backed by silver stored in the U.S. Treasury. They were phased out in the 1960s when the Treasury stopped redeeming paper currency for silver.
